Conservation Agriculture (CA)

Conservation Agriculture Techniques focus on improving soil fertility and moisture retention on subsistence farmers’ c2 hectare plots.

We encourage farmers to give up 20% of their plot annually to grow non food plants which then compost down to enhance soil fertility in future years. Seeds are located in permanent planting stations to concentrate fertility and moisture retention is achieved through mulch ground covering.

DCT’s Development Services Coordination specialists develop Tanzanian subsistence farmers who are already achieving proven CA results on their own plots, into trainers of other farmers.

The results: harvest yields are on average DOUBLED with some farmers reporting up to 3-4 times increase above current yields.

It costs £375 per annum to train a local Trainer who can then impact the lives of c6000 people.
