About Us

Fast No More

Fast No More is the UK campaigning arm of the CTDT (Central Tanganyika Diocesan Trust) an organisation founded in 1947 and registered with the UK Charity Commission (Charity Number: 1034798) with the objective of raising funds to help the Anglican Diocese of Central Tanganyika (DCT) with education, training, the improvement of health, famine relief and religious activities.

All funds raised by Fast No More will be routed to Tanzania by CTDT and will be used to develop Conservation Agriculture capacity, build air tight grain storage units and to facilitate access to two-wheel tractor units for subsistence farmers.

Our Place

Tanzania is located between the great lakes of Africa and the Indian Ocean. It is a big country – at 947,000 km2 it’s nearly four times the size of the UK.

With a population of 63.3m Tanzania has c2 million fewer inhabitants than the UK, but the UK’s GDP per head ($45,000) is fifteen times that of Tanzania’s. 68% of Tanzanians live at or below the UN’s absolute poverty threshold of $2 per day.

The Diocese of Central Tanganyika (DCT) based in Dodoma covers a large, relatively flat and dry area of Tanzania and comprises 290 parishes with 300 pastors caring for some 1 million people – most of whom are Anglican Christians, but also other faiths and beliefs.

Food Insecurity

Central Tanzania has a semi-arid climate with just 22 inches of rainfall per annum.

Most people in the area (75%+) are subsistence farmers, 50% of whom are currently impacted by hunger during poor harvest years.  The many challenges include:

  • Poor soil fertility due to lack of fertiliser, lack of compost and inadequate manure.
  • Lack of soil moisture due to erratic rainy seasons as well as excessive run off, high rates of evaporation and hard pan in the earth substrate.
  • Challenging Irrigation because there are virtually no permanent streams and deep ground water is costly to access.

The whole situation is aggravated by firewood cutting which exacerbates desertification tendencies caused by climate change.
